Prosecution Rests Case In Murder Trial Of NJ Lawyer Paul Bergrin

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Testimony in the murder trial of a well-known New Jersey lawyer is nearing completion.

Paul Bergrin is charged with helping to set up the murder of an informant in 2004 who was to testify against one of his clients.

The prosecution rested its case Wednesday morning.

Bergrin called as his first defense witness the ex-girlfriend of the man who admitted shooting the informant.

Rashidah Tarver said former boyfriend Anthony Young told her he was ready to tell authorities ``whatever they wanted to know'' to get into the Witness Protection Program.

Young was a key prosecution witness against Bergrin earlier in the trial.

Bergrin once represented Queen Latifah and other entertainers. He is acting as his own attorney at the trial and is expected to wrap up his case later Wednesday.
