NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police say they’ve caught the man wanted for an attempted rape in the East Village.

Police released surveillance images Monday of the suspect that police say tried to rape a 27-year-old woman inside her apartment building.

The surveillance images were unusually clear.

Thursday police arrested Imre Meszesan, 35, of MacDonough Street in Brooklyn.

Meszesan faces Attempted Rape and Burglary charges.

The surveillance video, recorded moments before the alleged attack, apparently shows Meszesan letting himself in to the victim’s apartment building on First Avenue in the East Village. He allegedly tried to rape her in the hallway.

The suspect wound up running off when the woman fought back.
