In New Jersey last year over Thanksgiving, five people died in car crashes. Four of the accidents involved alcohol.
Police are on alert as bars will be packed tonight for the traditional pre-Thanksgiving get together.
In addition to DWI patrols, police will also go undercover in liquor stores to make sure that everyone is 21 and up.
In Somerset County, there is a little help from a non-profit group called Empower, which fights substance abuse, the organization is paying to have twenty-two extra police officers on patrol tonight.
