NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The top man at City Hall is spending part of his Thanksgiving doing some giving of his own, along with City Meals on Wheels and a bit of star power.

Many folks who are alone this holiday are spending Thanksgiving at the Peter Cardella Senior Center in Queens.
“It means everything,” said Mimi Wild-Gruber. “I thank God we have it because it means so much.”
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and actress Kathleen Turner helped in the kitchen to prepare yams. Turner not only serves meals at the center, but also goes door to door to deliver them to those in need.

“It is wonderful,” she said. “It is an extraordinary thing. I meet people I would not normally.”
Over 5,000 meals are delivered in the five boroughs through the program.
