Alec Baldwin Kicked Off Of American Airlines Flight At LAX

Actor, Potential NYC Mayoral Candidate Said To Refuse To Shut Off Cell Phone

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — “30 Rock” star and potential NYC mayoral candidate Alec Baldwin was kicked off a plane at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday.

LISTEN: 1010 WINS’ John Montone reports

Two passengers on a flight leaving LAX tweeted first-hand accounts of seeing Baldwin getting the boot.

Moments after those tweets, Baldwin himself tweeted the following: “Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving.” He added the hashtag “#nowonderamericaairisbankrupt”

Baldwin was apparently so hooked by a game, he wouldn’t turn his phone off, CBS 2’s Hazel Sanchez reported.

American Airlines issued a cryptic statement, saying: “We’re sorry, but owing to privacy concerns regarding our customers, we don’t comment on something that might or might not have happened.”

Boxer Oscar De La Hoya was among several passengers sitting near Baldwin in first class on American Airlines Flight 4. De La Hoya was shocked to see the actor get kicked off the plane.

“The stewardess told everyone to turn everything off and he was doing it,” De La Hoya told Sanchez. “Alec Baldwin was turning off his devices and he just got a little angry — that’s about it.”

Baldwin’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, issued the following statement: “Alec was asked to leave the flight for playing ‘Words with Friends’ while parked at the gate. He loves WWF so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it, but he has already boarded another AA flight.”

Baldwin was expected to arrive at John F. Kennedy Airport late Tuesday night.

Media executive Michael J. Wolf was one who tweeted, saying Baldwin was removed from the flight.

According to enraged passengers via Twitter, the plane had to return to the gate.

“He looked a little bit intoxicated to me,” one passenger told Sanchez.

Baldwin has hinted at the possibility of one day running for NYC mayor.

“I wouldn’t rule it out,” a close confident of the start told CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer of the actor’s desire to fill Michael Bloomberg’s shoes.

Baldwin has long harbored political ambitions. In 1998 he appeared on CBS 2’s Sunday political talk show, and in 2000 he campaigned with Hillary Clinton for the U.S. Senate. So, it was no surprise that in January he told Eliot Spitzer that he’s ready to get into the political game.

“The answer is ‘yes.’ It’s something I’m very, very interested in,” Baldwin said at the time.

Baldwin is no stranger to controversy. A few years ago he was overheard expressing parental outrage at his teenage daughter.

“You are a rude, thoughtless little pig, okay?” Baldwin said during a phone conversation.

he’s a Baldwin. What do you expect?

  2. Steven says:

how old is he? Didn’t want to stop playing a game? And his spokesman actually stated this? Wow

  3. DCLaw-1 says:

First, electronics off when the plane doors close. This rule applies to everyone, even elitist mutii-millionaire Hollywood types. Second, he has no business insulting flight attendants who work their butts off for a meager living, even though he makes untold millions every year for dressing up and playing pretend like a five year old, and shilling credit cards for Capital One, the most predatory credit card company in history. Third, is it not a bit ironic that he “acts” like he is a liberal supporter of the working man and the OWS movement; yet he promotes Capital One, is a millionaire with penthouses and mansions, and arrogantly insults and looks down his nose at working people who dare treat him same as everyone else? Typical Hollywood liberal, attaching himself to causes they don’t care about for the spotlight and attention. He is as fake as a CGI effect.

New Yorkers liberals will, despite his opaque opportunistic ways, vote for him because the only thing they worship more than effeminate European “intellectuals” is Hollywood phonies.

  10. Jacqueline Bergsten-Salvia says:

Alec Baldwin is a fat headed, self-centered, pompous jerk!!! EVERYONE MUST turn off their electronics for the safety of EVERYONE on the aircraft!!! No exceptions…..JERK!!! 😉

    1. Chesley Sullenberger says:

Although everyone must abide by the rules, having a cell phone “ON” will not cause any havoc with an airplane taking off, least of all causing it to crash. It is an idiotic rule, but still must be followed by all.

  11. Larry Schwarz says:

It is a federal regulation that one must comply aith all flight crew instructions. He is lucky he was not arrested.I think he is a good actor, but should know better.Someone like him should set an example.

    1. jimbo says:

  12. Big Nards says:

Alex words with the flight crew were “I’m a jerk”.

  13. JK says:

Everyone knows how strict airline rules have been especially in the last 10 years after 9/11…if this idiot is still clueless he needs to be banned from all flights…

  14. susan says:

hmmmm..i thought his days of temper tantrums etcetera were over..i will bet he “declined” to put away a cell phone when asked to do so..if the flight was just leaving the gate, he couldnt have been drunk already because they would not have allowed him to board..hollywood types always feel they are not subject to the same rules as the rest of us “mortals”!!!

  15. Huh says:

Please kick him off the planet…

  16. Michael Mathless says:

    WHO CARES???

    1. Michael H. says:
