Funeral To Be Held For Fallen Mount Vernon Firefighter

MOUNT VERNON, NY (CBSNewyork) – Funeral services will be held today for a Mount Vernon firefighter who died in the line of duty.

Kevin Townes, who was with the department for more than 25 years, died last week after apparently suffering a heart attack at the scene of a house fire.

The 54-year-old leaves behind a wife and four children.

He is the first Mount Vernon firefighter to die in the line of duty in more than 15 years.

    I used to work with Kevin at Childrens Villiage…he was a great friend. I havent seen or spoke to him in years but everytime I passed the firehouse in mt.v, i thought of him. To his family — God Bless You all in this time of need. I pray that God comfort you and keep you in his care.
