NEW YORK (WFAN) – In two days, the Jets and Giants will finally put all the big brother, little brother trash talk aside.
The battle for New York will be decided on the field. One team will claim bragging rights and keep control of their playoff fate. The other team? Well, let’s just say Christmas won’t be as merry this year.
For now, the war of words continues. And it hasn’t been a disappointment.
Are the Jets starting to take over NYC? Giants running back Brandon Jacobs doesn’t think so. And he said a Jets win on Christmas Eve won’t be enough to turn the tide green.
“They’re going to need a hell of a lot more than this game to make that happen,” Jacobs said Wednesday.
Rex Ryan has led the charge, asserting this week that the Jets are the better team. According to Jacobs, trash talk is just a crutch Ryan uses to motivate his guys.
“He’s trying to put something in people’s minds that might not really be there,” said Jacobs.
Meanwhile, Ryan wants Jets fans to help prove his point and wear green to the game.
The Jets, seeking a playoff atmosphere for the home game, will also hand out towels with “Green It” printed on them.
“I think when we get that kind of energy out of our fans, it’s going to go a long way to helping us achieve what we want to do,” said Ryan. “And that’s to have a huge win on Saturday and keep our playoff hopes alive.”
Ryan said earlier this week that he hopes the Gang Green faithful won’t sell their tickets to Giants fans if they can’t make the game.
After all, MetLife Stadium belongs to the Jets. According to Ryan at least.
“It feels like this is our stadium,” he said. “I’m sure (the Giants) feel the same, but this is our stadium.”
