NEW YORK (WFAN) – Giants fans everywhere are certainly enamored with defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.
But when the All-Pro guaranteed a victory against the 15-1 Green Bay Packers, well, let’s just say Giants coach Tom Coughlin wasn’t down with JPP.
“We’re going to win,” Pierre-Paul said after helping New York dismantle the Falcons.
When asked about the prediction Monday, Coughlin responded: “I realize everybody is anxious and I am, too. I told the players that and let’s cover the game and learn from the game we just played, let’s keep things in perspective, let’s get started looking at some tape but let’s not get too carried away just yet.”
You could see how Pierre-Paul would get excited enough to “100 percent” guarantee a win after New York’s 24-2 win over Atlanta. The Giants’ rejuvenated defense has given up a mere 53 points in their last four games.
But facing Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay will likely be a different story altogether. When the teams last faced on Dec. 4, Rodgers dominated the scoreboard with 449 yards and four touchdowns.
“You should ask me to stand next to him when you ask a question like that,” Coughlin joked.
That isn’t to say Coughlin is pessimistic about his team’s chances. Not in the least. After a rough stretch, the good vibes are flowing again in the Giants’ locker room.
“We believe in each other,” defensive end Justin Tuck told WFAN’s Mike Francesa on Monday. “And that’s a very, very powerful thing.”
Safety Antrel Rolle, no stranger to making predictions himself, stood by Pierre-Paul’s Namath-esque boast.
“Whatever my teammates say … I’m backing them all the way,” said Rolle. “Especially if JPP says it, we’re gonna go out there and get it done.”
