Archbishop Dolan Makes Rounds Before Heading To Rome For Promotion
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan will be elevated to Cardinal at a ceremony in Rome next month, but before he leaves, he’s keeping busy around here.

When Dolan visited a Catholic Charities affiliate called Part of the Solution in the Bronx on Wednesday, where the homeless and the unemployed can get a meal, a shower, a haircut, and counseling, he was enveloped by hugs and greeted by handshakes, smiles, and tears.
“It’s overwhelming because here you got these people today who are homeless, they are hungry so many of them, and they are all congratulating me. They know it. And you know what makes me happy, is that they are happy. When they come up to me and say ‘We’re happy that you are going to be made a Cardinal.’ And I’m saying, you know what? That makes me happy that they are happy. These people that look for some happiness and peace in their lives, maybe this has brought a little bit of joy,” Dolan told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb.
“You know, when it comes down to it, as honored and as grateful as I am for being a Cardinal, in the eyes of Jesus, what they’re doing here is a heck of a lot more important than me getting to be named a Cardinal. I mean, I don’t see any word in the Gospel where he says ‘Go and be a Cardinal.’ He does say ‘Go take care of my people.’,” added Dolan.
Asked whether he is doing anything special leading up to his elevation, the Archbishop laughed and said he’s trying to lose weight to get into the new outfit.
When asked if his mother was going with him to Rome, he said no. He’s going with her.
