Girl Struck, Killed While Trying To Cross Street Near Williamsburg Bridge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police say a 12-year-old girl was struck and killed by a minivan Friday in lower Manhattan.

Dashane Santana of the East Village was with a group of friends trying to cross the nine lanes of traffic on Delancey Street near the entrance to the Williamsburg Bridge when she was hit.

She was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.

The driver of the minivan remained at the scene. authorities don’t expect him to be charged with a crime.
