NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Tough-guy actor Mark Wahlberg is apologizing for a comment he made about 9/11 in the February issue of Men’s Journal.
“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry,’” he said.
Wahlberg claims history may have been different had he decided not to fly to Toronto a week before the attacks, avoiding boarding the Los Angeles-bound flight out of Boston which crashed into the World Trade Center.
“To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible,” Wahlberg told TMZ following harsh criticism for the comment. “To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with.”
“I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention,” he added.
In 2006, the star of the new movie “Contraband” made similar statements saying, “We certainly would have tried to do something to fight. I’ve had probably over 50 dreams about it.”
A widow of one of the passengers who fought back on Flight 93 told TMZ that Wahlberg’s comments were not only disrespectful but silly.
