PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Rutgers head football coach Greg Schiano is mourning the death of former Penn State coach Joe Paterno.
In a statement issued Sunday night, Schiano said Paterno “embodied the way college football was supposed to be.”
Schiano also praised Paterno for using football as a learning tool to educate his players for the many challenges they would face after they left school. He also noted that Paterno was “never afraid” to say and act on what he believed to be right.
Said Schiano: “I will miss him terribly.”
