2 Dead, 2 Injured In Paterson Shooting; Police Looking For Suspects

PATERSON, NJ (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police in Paterson are looking for suspects in a multiple shooting that left two people dead and two others injured.

Gunfire erupted around 3 a.m. Saturday on Sumner Street. Paterson Police Lt. Richard Reyes says Taheen Taylor and Dashon Adamson, both 22-year-old city residents, were killed in the shooting.

"All of a sudden a couple of guys pulled out weapons and started firing at the brothers and everybody start scattering," said Paterson resident Harold Stancil. "It was a chaotic situation. They were just shooting at each other for nothing."

The names of the other two victims were not disclosed.

Reyes says a 20-year-old city man was shot in the side, while a 19-year-old city man was hit in the leg. The older man was treated at a hospital and released later Saturday morning, but the 19-year-old remained hospitalized Saturday afternoon.

Irvin Jacobs, a man who said he is the uncle of one of the victims, was on the scene hours after it happened.

"It's a sad thing that we're losing our youth to violence and to gunshots," said Jacobs.

But a motive for the shooting in Paterson early Saturday remains a mystery and authorities say it's not yet known if more than one shooter was involved.
