Police Search For Carjacking Suspect In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx mother was double-parked with her engine running outside her flower shop Saturday when a carjacker got behind the wheel.

The woman parked the car on Jerome Avenue and went around to unstrap her 3-year-old, but before she could, the carjacker hopped in.

A witness tells 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon that the mother jumped in front of the car and screamed "stop," but the stranger sped away with child in tow, hitting the woman and a subway column.

"We heard a noise, we came outside, we saw cops all over," said witness Martin Larbee. "And they told us that the flower shop lady, Lucy, had been hit by a car."

"She was really in terrible pain. Her legs seemed to be broken or something," another witness said. "It's so sad to see these type of things happen. People just steal your vehicle, but she had the keys in the car and it was running at the time."

Police found the boy 45 minutes later, unharmed, in the Honda minivan just blocks away. He was reunited with his mother at the hospital.
