Rescue Of NJ Driver Trapped In Burning Car Caught On Video

BARNEGAT, NJ (CBSNewYork) — A man is alive thanks to two police officers who pulled him from a burning car in Barnegat, New Jersey and the dramatic rescue was all caught on video.

Officers Lauren Keilitz and Michael Diblasi arrived at the fiery scene Monday night on Biscayne Road. Video from their patrol car’s dashcam shows the officers sprinting towards a BMW 745 that was engulfed in flames.

Watch the video below:

Police say the driver, 57-year-old Mario Dischiavi, was incapacitated and trapped inside. After struggling through intense heat and flames, Officer Keilitz was finally able to open the door and pull the driver to safety.

Dischiavi was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

I don’t understand how one can be trapped inside of a car, even with power locks; but thanks to Officers Lauren Keilitz and Michael Diblasi, Mr. Dischiavi can continue with his life. Both officers should be in line for a medal with the bravery they showed rescuing Mr. Dischiavi.
