What Happens When A District Doesn’t Use Its Snow Days?

UNIONDALE, NY (CBSNewYork) – Maybe it is wishful thinking, but we are already into February and the Uniondale school district on Long Island has not used any of its two snow days.

WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall On The Story

What happens if the nice weather continues?

“We always build in snow days to the school calendar and if we don’t use any snow days, then one day will be added to the weekend break on Memorial Day weekend. That one day is actually returned to the staff and they’re off and they have an extended weekend during that time,” assistant superintendent Bancroft Burke told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.

He said not using any snow days is rare.

Why do teachers get off all the days anyway.
I can understand why kids get a break why do teachers if they are getting paid?
I’m sure they can use the extra schooling to keep abreast.
