NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The conquering heroes are coming home, but the New York Giants aren’t the only ones claiming victory from last night’s Super Bowl. Several New York and New Jersey lawmakers are “cashing in” on some big bets that Big Blue would be bringing home the title.
The bet: If the Giants win, one New York City family will be chosen to get a super tour of Boston. If the Patriots win, one Boston family will get four roundtrip tickets to New York City.
Looks like one lucky family from New York is getting a free trip.
New Yorkers can enter to win the trip on the city’s website, by calling 311 or texting 311692 beginning on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
Entrants must be 18 years or older and reside within one of the five boroughs.
In the bet between New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, the loser has to give the entire Senate a round of beer from their home state. We all know who’s buying.
Senator Martin Golden and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis also got in on the action. The New York Legislators made a friendly bet with Massachusetts State Rep. F. Jay Barrows last week.
Golden and Malliotakis will get a New England style dinner for two, including lobsters, clam chowder and Boston cream pies, courtesy of Rep. Barrows.
“Congratulations to our hometown heroes, the New York Giants, on a fantastic Super Bowl XLVI Championship. We join all residents of New York in applauding a great season and an awesome playoff run. We are very much looking forward to enjoying our New England feast,” Golden and Malliotakis said in a statement.
If the Patriots had won, Golden and Malliotakis would have had to send Barrows Junior’s cheesecake, hot dogs and fries from Nathans and chocolate egg creams from Hinsch’s Confectionary in Bay Ridge.
Rep. Nan Hayworth of New York also made a bet with Rep. Frank Guinta of New Hampshire that they called “A Taste of New Hampshire vs. A Bite of the Big Apple.”
Like Golden and Malliotakis, Hayworth will be feasting on lobster and maple syrup. If the Patriots had won, Hayworth would have had to send cold cuts, baked ziti and New York-style cheesecake to Guinta.
New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg made a bet with Sen. John Kerry from Massachusettes.
The wagered sweet treats. Lautenberg bet a cake from Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, home to the show “Cake Boss” while Kerry put up a Boston cream pie.
