NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan says President Barack Obama hasn’t kept his promise, when it comes to the new White House policy on contraception.

Sources told CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer that Archbishop Dolan feels betrayed after his meeting with the president on the issue late last year.

A Catholic group in Alabama filed the first lawsuit against the Obama administration’s new birth control regulations as the controversy got even more heated Thursday.

The president ducked questions about the contraception controversy that is bedeviling his administration. The reason may be the latest attack from Dolan, who, sources told CBS 2, feels he was stabbed in the back by the president after the two met to discuss the issue.

“He was worried about being at odds with the Church, especially when it came to health care and education and charitable outreach,” Dolan told Kramer.

Kramer: “He made promises to you that he apparently hasn’t kept?”

Dolan: “Well, yeah. I’m honest in saying I feel a bit let down.”

Sources close to Dolan told Kramer that the archbishop felt betrayed after a November meeting with President Obama to discuss the contraception issue. Sources said the president promised Dolan that he would “get most of what he wanted.”

Instead, the administration issued a directive forcing Catholic institutions like schools and hospitals to pay for things like birth control and the morning after pill for their employees. The nation’s 355,000 churches are exempt.

“He assured me my administration wants to work closely with you,” Dolan said.

But that experience has left Dolan leery of any compromises the Obama administration might come up with.

“You would not be surprised that I’m a little skeptical,” Dolan said.

Democrats say it’s not about religion at all, but rather giving women the freedom to make their own choices.

“One million people and their dependents are employees at religiously sponsored hospitals and another 2 million students and workers are at religiously sponsored colleges and universities — far too many women to exclude from crucial health coverage,” Rep. Carolyn Maloney said.

“My colleagues and I stand in solidarity with American women who have waited decades for equity in contraceptive coverage,” said Westchester Rep. Nita Lowey.

“No one is telling the bishops anything about the religious practices of the Catholic church,” said Rep. Jerrold Nadler from Manhattan. ”What is at issue here is that the bishops want the ability to impose their religious beliefs on other people, on the employees of religiously affiliated hospitals and universities.”

But Republicans in Congress plan to make the birth control provision in the Obama health care law an election year issue.

“This is very straightforward. This is about whether the government of the United States should have the power to go in and tell a faith-based organization that they have to pay for something they teach their members they shouldn’t be doing,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) said Wednesday.

House Speaker John Boehner is already laying out steps to reverse the policy.

“If the president does not reverse the department’s attack on religious freedom, then the Congress acting on behalf of the American people and the Constitution that we’re sworn to uphold, must,” Boehner said Wednesday.

Most health care plans already cover contraception and according to surveys, most Catholic women use it and according to the Center for Disease Control, 99 percent of women will use contraceptives at some point.

“That’s the point of the Affordable Health Care Act, that all Americans will have access to the kind of health care they need,” said Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Illinois).

Obama is standing by the new policy, but said he is looking for ways to compromise, including one option where religious employers would not have to cover birth control so long as they refer employees to an insurer who would provide it.

The new policy is set to take effect in August. The controversy won’t go away until some compromise is reached, and now with the suit being filed some may wait to see if it is upheld or struck down.

Yes, well the rest of us knew what Obama was before he became president. Anyone wanting to compromise with Obama misunderstands who and what he is. You might as well attempt a compromise with Satan himself. Evil never sleeps and Obama never misses a chance to attack or undermine Christianity.

    • Gunny G Alz

EXACTLY RIGHT! They are only upset because Ovomit is TARGETING THEM!

  • Concerned Atheist

Who cares if the Cardinal feels betrayed. Boo-hoo. I didn’t elect Cardinal Dolan. Why is his reaction news?

    • Barry Soetoro

The Cardinal is a representative for about 33% of the US population. Atheists make up only about 2%. That’s why you don’t matter.

      • Concerned Atheist

Try 20%. And if we didn’t have the atheists, we’d still be stuck in the dark ages. Someone has to leave the church and start doing some REAL work, like studying science and inventing computers, like the one you are using to sound brainwashed and ignorant. The only thing you can claim is that your god-of-the-margins has inspired this progress, but I give the credit to those scientists and evidence-based researchers who were directly involved. So keep pouring money into your churches, so they can spread their gospel, the same anti-contraception gospel that has helped keep AIDS alive and well throughout Africa, and so they can spread the fundamentalism, the same fundamentalism that burns down abortion clinics. REAL murder (of doctors and nurses) to prevent what you consider “murder”, the removal of a fetus, which, scientifically speaking, is not much more than a parasite. And saying this doesn’t make me heartless, it just makes me human. And while on the topic, if contraception is where the definition of human starts, why don’t you go after the alcohol and tobacco companies instead of the abortion clinics? There are orders of magnitude more fetuses lost and damaged to the use of alcohol/tobacco than there are through LEGAL abortions. And if your church is so good and righteous, why doesn’t the vatican donate a little of its gold or sell a bit of its real estate portfolio to provide the religious -based health care that you want? Me, I’ll support health care that does the right thing, not the righteous thing. Finally, for those of you that don’t want contraception to be used, how many of you have adopted a child? A few, yes. But the majority, no. Hypocrites.

And I didn’t elect for Obama either, but at least there was a vote.

So go take your blinders off, read a physics textbook, and make yourself useful. Science is what makes this world go ’round, not your god.

    • Orlando_Catholic

I didn’t vote for Obama and I didn’t elect the Kardashians, but we always hear about them! Why not hear about someone who represents my views and the views of tens of millions of Catholics in the U.S.?

      • Concerned Atheist

While it is true that the Kardashians are setting a bad example, they aren’t trying to infect public GOVERNMENT policy with their religious dogma. Ever hear of the First Amendment? Currently, Obama’s plan is based on medical, scientific, and sociological recommendations and reasoning. Changing it because of pressure from the church is a direct violation of this too often ignored part of our Constitution.

      • Rodin

        Because bigots should be shunned.

    • Edgar Sousa

Atheist: you do not have a dog in this fight. And dog spelled backwards is

      • Concerned Atheist

god!!! I got it. Hot damn, that word-play thing really hit your point home. The atheists may not win this battle, but the war is ever moving toward reason. The margins in which your god exists is forever shrinking. Cling to your unchanging faith, while I use my dynamic and changeable reasoning skills to help move society along.

    • Concerned Atheist

While you don’t have to say I’m right, the best argument you can hope to have is to say that atheists are, at the very least, essential. It is those who have challenged blind faith and dogma that push society forward.

As a quick example, remember that if the church had its way, the Earth would still be the center of the universe. And not understanding the physics of planetary science means no satellites. So do a little experiment (that’s when you try different things and see which one works best, not let someone else tell you what you should feel is best), make your life like it would have been if it was dictated wholly by the church with respect to this one example, planetary science. Unplug your cable and your phone, turn off your cell phone and any GPS you may be using in your car. Disconnect your internet, because even if it is a wired system now, the development of the early internet linked distant sites across the US via satellite communications. Try that for a few days. See how that goes.

If you want to try another one, stop taking any medication that was developed in the last 30 years. Basic antibiotics and painkillers are fine, so is insulin, but new classes of biologic medicines are produced with the help of genetics, directly a result of my personal hero Charles Darwin and his brave new ideas that, at the time, challenged the very roots of your faith. So imagine the world without most vaccines, watching your family members die of illnesses that could have been stopped by opposite-of-the-church thinking. Tell cancer patients that their new therapies are being forgotten in lieu of a more faith-based approach to curing disease. Tell many patients with a myriad of autoimmune diseases that their monoclonal antibody therapy is being purged from public knowledge, and they can go back to, at best, suffering from intense joint pain, and at worst, dying.

Oh, and you can also tell all the families of victims of violent crimes whose attacker was convicted with DNA evidence that because of you righteous and unchanging faith, said perpetrator will now be released back onto the street.

All of these things have happened despite what you claim your god (of the margins) would have wanted. That sounds like a kind god to me, doesn’t it. But let us, for a moment, consider you are correct. There is a god and he/she/it/black/white/asian/aispanic/allah/jesus/zeus/FSM (which one?) has a grand design. Again, at the very least, you have to concede that the less faithful are part of this design. Can you deny this? Guess not. And we aren’t here just to challenge your faith and make it stronger, although I do think your vanity is well deserved. No, we are here to do the things the faithful can’t do. We are the people who challenge current ideas, make breakthroughs, and move society forward, all of us must be a part of that design. If we assume you’re correct in your worldview, then when you are challenging the faithless and calling them incorrect, you are challenging the very design that your god has established. Go Google “heresy”. Oh wait, you can’t, you’ve unplugged your godless internet. Hope you still own a dictionary.

      • Rodin

“Mockery of religion is one of the most essential things because to demystify supposedly ‘holy text dictated by god’ and show that they are man made and what you have to show [is] there internal inconsistencies and absurdities. One of the beginnings of human emancipation is the ability to laugh at authority… it is an indispensable thing people can call it blasphemy if they like, but if they call it that they have to assume there is something to be blasphemed – some divine work, well I don’t accept the premise.”

  • Jess

He can’t “figure it out?” Here’s a hint. The man IS A MARXIST TOTALITARIAN. If you’d had realized what millions of us already knew, you wouldn’t be so shocked.

    • Angelica

LOL, the millions you are talking about are Hispanics…you know, the ones you want to deport…

But I guess they serve your ulterior motives, don’t they!

      • Leroy

You’re a twit Angelica. Turn of the PMSNBC and return to the 4th grade.

        • Angelica

LOL @ you Leroy, just like a man to bring the PMS BS equation.

BTW, the word is OFF not OF… I learned that in 3rd grade, but I guess they didn’t show you the difference at Mensa.

      • Ralph

What are you talking About? The HiSPANICS that are being deported are different then the ones that are AMERICAN CITIZENS! I am Hispanic and Born in this country. Why would I care about a WetBack coming in across the border! AMAZING!

        • Angelica

I have no words for your diatribe…Wow…Wetback. Shows your lack of acceptance and compassion…but I guess, your parents were welcomed with open arms!

Please don’t answer back…I can see what type of person you are by your comment.

Why is government getting involved in the science-fiction industry?

  • Teddy Novak

Dear Cardinal-Designate Dolan – You should have known better than to have trusted Obama. Further, you should not have tried to cut a deal to impose socialized medicine on America.

For those who assert that healthcare is a “right,” I would remind them that anything deemed a right that someone else has to provide (and enforced by the mailed fist of government) enslaves the provider. Further, giving government direct control over life and death isn’t really bright – Hitler had government healthcare too, he even sent millions to camps for special treatment.

Socialism in all its forms (communism, fascism, nazism, etc.) is evil. It must be confronted and resisted as do all that seek to impose it.

This is the government the founders warned us about. It’s time to take back America. Let’s hope it will be at the ballot box.

    http://www.zazzle.com/FirstPrinciples?rf=238518351914519699

    • I think not…

Socialism is an economic system, communism is a form of government. You only think it is evil because you live in a Western Democratic government, with a Capitalist economic system. Socialism or communism is not inherently evil. Socialism is about equality for all, and communism is an effective and efficient form of government, tainted only by the human nature of greed. Open you mind, and go back to school.

      • ReaganusMaximus

        too bad greed exists everywhere…

“The point of opening one’s mind is the same as of opening one’s mouth: to close it again upon something solid.” (G.K. Chesterton)

Socialism is idealism married to the state, which always descends into tyranny.
Go back to school and study history, “I think not” – your name says it all!

        • Kevin Vaughn

yeah and yours says worse…Reagan us to the Maximus is EXACTLY why we as a country have become the GREED nation under Republican INSANITY.

      • Marrabella

I think not…. You can be FREE or you can be EQUAL. You cannot be both. The reason the US is (was) so wealthy is not because we are greedy pigs. It is because we are FREE.
Look at the most destitute countries ….. most are run by tyrannical thugs. These UN thugs want our wealth. They need to go. We need to get out of the UN and get the UN out of the US.

      • JP

Go cut sugarcane and get cut up by its leaves while snakes and corcodiles have at you in the intense tropical heat of Fidel’s glorious Cuba, or go eat big meals in the heaven of Kim young il’s North korea….then you will really be happy till you meet your real boss, Lucifer.

      • Nanny States need Not Apply

Yea! Equality for all! … oh wait, does that mean I get a Govt Issued Giselle Bunchen? Does that mean I get steak and lobsters every other night? or does it really mean that we will all be Equally Miserable is the government doles out the resources.

      • Mikey De

I got news for you: The French revolution is over. They beheaded all the people who could think coherent thoughts. The Germans have kicked thier butts 3 times since 1870. It was a helluva revolution, they are all equal though,
By the way Communism crashed and burned also or didn’t they teach that in college?

    • Jason

Thank you for having a basic knowledge of the concept of force and the government monopoly on force. We are watching the Republic slip out of our grasp. It is all going down and we have Mitt Romney to save us? …. right…

I am preparing for total collapse of this country, morally, socially , financially and economically. I hope you and your family are too…
Exactly, whats the difference? No matter who wins this primary we will be stuck with somebody who does not care about the constitution and our country is going to continue its rapid decline into the ash heap of history.

All you can do is prepare yourself for the decline of America and pray to God it doesn’t happen. I am prepared. and I hope you are too how much of this list do you currently have?
      http://www.postapocalypticsurvival.com/2012/01/post-apocalyptic-survival-gear-list.html

      • Moshe

Clinton and now Obama have paved the way to moral decline by forcing approval of gay “rights”. It’s not about compassion, it is to get people to accept perversion as another healthy way of life. Society will eventually collapse when moral failure is viewed as something to be celebrated.

      • Angelica

LOL, your link direct me to buy merchandise I know the Founding Fathers were all a about enterprise, but you touted the link as something different…much like the conservative have touted their message as something else…and nothing to do with job creation or bringing the economy back…as they said they would.

All it is is just fluff just like your post…..

    • Orlando_Catholic

They forgot to consult the 1891 encyclical Rerum Novarum:
“At the present day many there are who, like the heathen of old, seek to blame and condemn the Church for such eminent charity. They would substitute in its stead a system of relief organized by the State. But no human expedients will ever make up for the devotedness and self sacrifice of Christian charity. Charity, as a virtue, pertains to the Church; for virtue it is not, unless it be drawn from the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ; and whosoever turns his back on the Church cannot be near to Christ.”

      • Rodin

        Rearend what?

    • Kevin Vaughn

Way more important to keep the power out of the hands of the likes of you sir.I sincerely hope the Government keeps an eye on you and all your affairs.

      • Fred Zarguna

No one is surprised that a liberal thinks the government needs to keep a sharp eye on its enemies and all their affairs. You think that’ll save you when your time comes? That’s what the Nazi’s enablers thought, too.

  • Bob Dobbs

Quick question… why is it OK to force an individual to pay for something that offends him, but not OK to force a religious group to do the same?

    • Joe

because POTUS says so? logic has nothing to do with any of this. killing babies is okay. homosexual lifestyle is okay. teaching little kids about sex is okay. letting girls get abortions without parents’ knowledge is okay. teaching morality, well that is not okay. that’s imposing and is simply not going to be allowed. people must be free to do evil without question. hey, sounds like satan is running the show!

      • storm915

LOL at you invoking Satan…have you seen him/her? Have you seen a “baby” live without support past the 3rd trimester? No, didn’t think so…Let me ask you, are you supporting these teenage Mothers?

You can teach morality in your home and church, but knowledge of contraception is necessary too. This should be taught to all young people whether in school or at home. Young people will have sex even you tell that abstinence is right. Birth Control is just what it says it is BIRTH CONTROL!

It is up to you whether they become a statistic or not. When you are ready to have to child, then it will come to be.

    • Orlando_Catholic

Neither is okay – the conscience protection act would allow this opt-out for anyone whose conscience (i.e., belief system/religion) is offended by this mandate.

    • Fred Zarguna

Gee, maybe a small thing called the Bill of Rights, which has special protections for the exercise of religion.

You *do* know that religions which specifically forbid the purchase of insurance already get an opt out, don’t you?

Or are we going to force Mohammedans, the Amish, and the Christian Scientists into 0bamacare, just so they can be force to buy everyone else’s abortions?

  • JOE

if people care about the teachings of the church, then they will follow them.. who cares that it is made available for cheap or free.. do as jesus would and all is well, yes?

  • storm915

LOL, he is appalled with the POTUS;s position on birth control, but where was his apology to the sexually abused? The Church Pedophiles still are employed by the Church, where was the empathy for the ones that were molested? Oh I see, let’s say we are against abortion so we can continue to fill our ranks with children to exploit & abuse!

    • Uncle Willie

please F yourself you smug schmuck

      • storm915

Wow…what a comeback. You really do exemplify your Catholic School teaching.

    • Jess

Is that all you lame idiots can come up with? You libs are one trick ponies, broken records, going over the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Never once looking at the actual ISSUE BEING DISCUSSED. Thus rendering your comment for what it is: liberal claptrap. Why don’t you stick to the topic instead of doing what liberals do best: attempt to re-direct the conversation so as to not address the actual issue. It’s not like we don’t see right through the tactic. We should. You dopes sure use it enough.

  • Gary

Maybe the Catholic Church needs to re-evaluate it’s tax-exempt status as they take public money and continue to fight for discrimination. This time, women??? I think they should voluntarily give up the right for tax-exempt status and then, maybe they will have an argument.

  • Maria P

Hey Idiots! Seperation of Church and State! Hellooooooooooo basic constitutional right! If you don’t beleive in the Catholic teachings, DON”T work for a Catholic institution! Do we go into Yeshivas and tell them what to believe! You can beleive whatever you like, but don’t go into another person’s reglioin and tell them what they should believe. Obama has NO CLUE what the constitution is and how it works. ANYBODY ELSE IN 2012 !!!!! PLEASE!!!!

    • Steven

Then catholic institutions should not hire any non catholics.

      • Christie: the Governor that ate NJ

And secular institutions, Hospital, Schools etc…should not hire Catholics. I think that is a fair compromise!

    • Uncle Willie

damn strait…I never once asked for bacon at Yeshiva…Why would Obama have a clue, he is not American.. Study is father, put yourself in his mothers shoes in 1962. they had to hate America. She left America. Obama looks at us from the outside in. He will never be American. More like a self obsessed African..

      • Moshe

Obama and his wife hate the U.S. and want to change it to model a European socialist nation. The sheep in this country are going along with it.

      • Chris

If you ever get to Israel visit Kibbutz Lahav, they have some great bacon and salami you can buy.

    • Kevin Vaughn

Maria before you and any other FAUX NEWS brainwashed disciples call others idiots get your facts correct. This is not a church and state issue. And POTUS is a Constitutional law scholar. Try responding to facts instead of reacting with MURDOCH RULES

      • Fred Zarguna

Please point us to a citation of any kind to any work ever published by the “Constitutional law scholar.”

        Just one.

Not even something he published, just a reference someone else made to his works or opinions.

        Just one.

Constitutional law scholar. Thanks for being our laugh for the day.

  • Schniff D. Tookus

You tell em’ Nick, make em’ smell your ass.

  • Steven

So, can I assume that all the catholics upset about his never had pre-marital sex? If not, THEN SHUT THE HECK UP!

  • slash

    POTUS
    - T for trustworthyness
    - U for unifier
and you end up with a POS

    • Christie: the Governor that ate NJ

hahahaha…that’s about Bush right? LOL that was really funny!

  • Cromulent

So Dolan is blaming Obama. He should take some responsibility. There were plenty of voices warning of this. Dolan chose to ignore them.

It has come time to play the role of Antigone. It has come time to throw dirt on Polyneices. It has come time to defy Creon.

And while you’re at it sir, don’t help elect Creon the next time he asks.

  • HAL

Exactly. It’s not the Catholics that hate women, it’s the Bible & the god within it, that Catholics follow, that hate women. Oh wait…..

And anyone who doesn’t know this is fact, has not actually read the Bible, which is about 99% of so-called Christians.

    • Brian

      Or you…..

I suspect though that even if you did bother to read it you wouldn’t understand it. The verses are intentionally cryptic..meaning you have to think about what they mean. So yeah..

I despise people like you..not because I’m religious but because you represent a crowd of ill educated asinine morons who are Cowards.

    • sguild

There’s HAL dropping acid and posting at the same time. Doesn’t make for very coherent arguments…does it?

  • Give me a Break

This is completely mind-boggling. The Church continuously lobbies the government regarding laws, yet it tells the government that it should stay away from Church affairs. The bill doesn’t tell the person that they should take a birth control pill, it merely states that IF the person elects to use it that they shall be covered under their health plan for it. Where in the bill does it state that person A has to take a birth control pill, regardless of their religious beliefs??
Even more so, if a person is really that religious, they wouldn’t need birth control pills. The Church is against premarital sex, and abortion, but how many of its followers actually believe in celibacy? IF they all do, then birth control or other means of contraception would not even be an issue. The only thing the Church can do is to spread its teachings, and hope that people listen and do things according to its beliefs. People have a GOD GIVEN CHOICE on what they do with their life, and CATHOLICISM IS NOT THE ONLY RELIGION !!!

    • Steven

      Amen to that.

  • klkerps klkerps

How can you say the Catholic Church hates women…. Catholics glorify the virgin Mary. They love women and love life. Keeping women pregnant is a blessing to them. LIfe begins at conception. Stop making assumptions when you don’t know the facts. Catholics don’t hate women.

  • Moshe

Good for Archbishop Dolan. His next move should be to meet with the Catholic governor about the abomination of gay marriage that Cuomo forced into law.

    • Give me a Break

Marriage can be a religious and legal union, gay marriage is not recognized by the Church there for it is not a religious union. You think that same-sex marriage cheapens what a religious union is, but you fail to understand that the Church only recognizes marriage if 1) a person has never been married. 2) the marriage was nullified by the Church. 3) a person’s spouse has past away. Having a legal union, has no bearing what-so-ever on a religious union.
What cheapens marriage, are all those people who get married and get divorced within 3 months, or all those people who cheat on their marriage. .

      • Marti

God invented marriage and God said it is between a man and woman. civil unions are man’s interpretation….. one is from a religeous view point… the other from man(govt.)

        • Boomer

God did not invent marriage, you fool.

          • Uncle Willie

Sure he did, I was there. You pufter, shirt lifting felch monkey..

        • storm915

Marti, Marti, Marti…Hitler wrote Mein Kampf and all of Germany, and a large part of Europe thought he was God. Now, let bring this down to reality shall we.

      • Steven

However, the church will allow a divorced person to get remarried in the eyes of god for about 3k-5k.

        • Angelica

Or in Elizabeth Taylor case..8 times. Nothing says a real marriage like that!

  • Frank

Your comment is one of blind ignorance. What silly nonsence!

  • Ed

Why does the church have any say in anything the government does? If you want a theocracy go to Iran.

    • Marti

so, Ed, why does the Govt. have a right to interfere with religion

      • Steven

The government is not interfering with religion. If your religion tells you to not take any form of birth control, then don’t. However, there are non-Catholics who work for catholic organizations, therefore, they should be allowed to receive the full benefits. If then you expect these non-catholics to look for work elsewhere, then you have another problem -discrimination based on religion.

        • Fred Zarguna

That isn’t the kind of discrimination that’s traditionally been protected by Strict Scrutiny. Catholic institutions aren’t required to provide the same services to their employees as every other employer. They are simply not entitled to treat different employees differently “as a class.” That means there is no discrimination if they fail to provide the same service for ALL of their employees.

But, for people who actually understand the Constitution and Federal case law — and aren’t simply left-wing nutcases — : this is what we’ve been trying to warn you about ALL ALONG. “National Health Care” is going to be used as a way to take complete control over peoples’ lives. This is just the first of many, many, many more power grabs to come.

          • sguild

Fred, you are absolutely correct. Seven appears to be a clueless moron.

  • Nathan Keener

Can somebody tell me, what is the difference between a Catholic institution paying an insurance company to cover birth control as part of a plan, and that same Catholic institution paying an employee who then purchases contraception? Except of course that the first way is much cheaper…Isn’t the Church morally culpable for funding the pill regardless of which way it is done?

I don’t don’t understand why any employer should pay for someone elses birth control. The resposibiltiy for birth control lies with the person… not an employer or even the Govt. Does this new mandate also cover condoms or vasectomies for men? People, people,… please take responsibility for yourselves… quite being a generation of entitlement.

LOL, at you… allow Viagra to be given with your health care… is that okay? If a person has a gene that brings about a developmentally delayed chiild, is that okay? If a child is born with a substance abuse is that okay? Or is it okay if it is prescription pills taken by a middle class parent and the child needs special treatment…is that okay?

To repeat what you said above….People, people,… please take responsibility for yourselves… quit being a generation of entitlement.

        • storm915

“Marti: Does this new mandate also cover condoms or vasectomies for men?”

It already is covered by every major insurance company……

          • Fred Zarguna

Really? Name a health care plan that pays for condoms.

            • Alice

medicaid in Michigan covers condoms, they are free. And if you are allergic to latex they cover sheep skin condoms. I know I have billed them.

    • Marti

sorry Nathan, the first way isn’t cheaper…. the employer is stuck with paying more money to cover someone elses birth control
The employee has the right to spend their money in whatever manner they choose… (ie.. birth control) The church does not tell people how to spend their own money… and the govt. should not require someone else to pay for your own birth control

    • Fred Zarguna

It’s not really a subtle moral distinction, but we don’t expect liberals to really understand moral questions. So let’s go through this S L O W L Y.

It’s the same degree of moral separation as an employer issuing you a bomb, and you going out and buying or assembling a bomb on your own. One of these activities implicitly sanctions a potentially life threatening behavior, the other is one for which you assume complete responsibility, because your paycheck could just as easily have gone to buying bomb-defusing equipment, or contributions to the widows and orphans fund for the police department.

      See how this works?

The $50 contributed by an employer for contraception and abortion, if left in your paycheck instead, could easily go to sending money to anti-abortion causes, or just having fun with your family. Unlike the $50 put into the abortion premium in the health care plan, the money DOESN’T HAVE TO BUY ABORTIONS.

It really isn’t complicated when you just think about right vs. wrong occasionally, instead of simply spouting left-wing sound bites.

It’s interesting that people feel the government should not interfere regarding women’s health issues when it comes down to birth control and the church. But when a woman’ wishes to seek an abortion or obtain birth control, then the Republicans and the church think the government should have control. Separation of church and state should apply on all sides. It comes down to
A WOMAN’s CHOICE!!! No one has the right to interfere.

    • Fred Zarguna

No one is interfering. Go ahead and abort all your kids! There will be fewer left-wing morons in the next generation. But please don’t ask me to pay for it. I’m not interested in paying for any of your health care, any more than I’m interested in buying you new shoes or a new pick up truck. Live and let live, I say! I don’t want anything to do with your or any society you live in. Leave me the f*ck alone.

Catholic institutions should just close their doors to anyone not catholic and fire all non-catholic employees. That should free up a lot of jobs for their own flock. As for catholic schools, hell they have not been catholic for a long time anyway… just look at Notre Dame and its ‘priest’ president. maybe they will learn something from this experience.

    • Marti

you are missing the point cygon…….

    • David Davila

“That should free up a lot of jobs for their own flock.”
Which Obama would really get off on, then he could sue them all for discrimination.
The thing that bugs me most is that BC is considered a ‘health’ issue.
It’s not a health issue, it’s a way to have sex with no cares in 99% of the cases where a women chooses to take the pill, and it’s killing a living fetus/child when it comes to abortion.
In some extreme cases, abortion may be neccessary, but again, 99% of abortions are because an irresponsible adult didn’t want a child.
There is no honesty in this discussion of birth control.

  • cygon

I agree. I do not know why catholic leaders even think they can bargain with the devil. I told my priest this and he asked me, “Is Obama any different from Saul who became St. Paul”.? I said, “Yes, because Obama knows exactly what he is doing… Saul did not”. Catholic bishops slavishly hang onto the democrap agenda of “social justice” and that is where they always get lost.

  • Bishop Len Brennan

Now the Church knows what most of us have know…..Obama is not to be trusted!

    • zoe

We also know that the church has pedophiles that haven’t been prosecuted by the law. They are not to be trusted!!!

    • James

That is for sure with Obama. But at the same time, Karma is a real thing. Maybe now the church knows what it is like to entrust someone with someothing imprtant, like our children, only to be lied to.
