Security Breach At Newark Airport Results In Passenger Re-Screening

NEWARK, NJ (CBSNewYork) -- Airport security caught a man walking unchecked through an area designated for passengers departing flights at Newark Airport on Saturday.

The incident caused passengers in Terminal B, which handles many of Newark Airport's international flights, to be re-screened prior to boarding.

Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said that the affected section of the terminal contained nine gates.

"The man apparently wanted to meet his wife at the gate and went around the security through the area reserved for exiting passengers," Coleman said.

The breach occurred around 5PM, it took several hours to re-screen the passengers in the terminal.

Terminal A was put on lock down earlier this month after a carry-on bag that was flagged for further inspection was lost track of by security agents. The bag was re-screened without incident.
