Suffolk County has the dubious distinction of being number one in drivers outside of New York City ticketed for using handheld cell phones behind the wheel.

5,355 violations were reported in the first seven months of the new tougher law.

It's a real problem, combined with others, says cabby Butcher Callum.

"Today, it's not only the cell phones, the cup of coffee, and I'm not picking on women, but some of them are doing their eyes and their lipstick. It's hysterical," he told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.

Nassau County has 4,366 violations.

Statewide, more than 111,000 tickets were handed out in the first seven months of cell phone law, which upgraded cell phone driving from a secondary offense to a primary one.
