$75K For ‘Linsanity’ Rookie Card? Lin: ‘That’s Crazy!’

NEW YORK (WFAN) — When you’re hot, you’re hot. Just ask the talk of New York, Knicks star Jeremy Lin.

A flurry of items have made their way to eBay since “Linsanity” began on Feb. 4. Well, a new item is about to hit the online auction block.

And it could be the biggest gainer yet.

29-year-old Yair Rozmaryn purchased a Lin rookie card for $1,000 last Monday. On Thursday night, the upper West Side resident plans to make it available on eBay.

“Well first of all, I’m a lunatic,” Rozmaryn told WFAN’s Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on Thursday. “I figured hey, if this kid could take off there’s a real big market for him. So why not take the chance?”

By Friday morning, bids had already reached nearly $15,000.

“Aw, that’s crazy,” Lin later told Boomer & Carton. “If that’s the case I need to get myself a card and sell it on eBay too.”

The card is numbered 17 in a set of 25. No. 17, of course, is Lin’s jersey number with the Knicks.

Rozmaryn said the card has been autographed by Lin and also contains a piece of the star’s jersey.

He told the Daily News that he hopes to fetch $75,000 for the collectible. His figure was a more modest $25,000 to $50,000 when asked by Boomer & Carton.

Perhaps Lin said it best: “I’m gonna have to see it before I believe that!”

Hey, it’s a “Linvestment.”

Rozmaryn wants the phenom on hand when completes the transaction.

“I want it to happen at Madison Square Garden,” he said, “with hopefully Jeremy Lin present.”

How much cash would you shell out for the card? Sound off below!

If you’re on ebay don’t get confused as there are others trying to capitalize on this. The famous card is #17 of 25 – hands down that’s the hottest thing right now

This is an international phenomenon. Who knows if the great Emperor himself resurrects and bids on it. China has gold. A few bars for the card is a great deal.

Thanks guys, my store gets enough publicity on it’s own merits. Just being realistic about this. The highest sale on Ebay so far was a rookie #ed 1/1 autographed jersey patch card that sold for $4,800. All other Buy It Now or opening bids above that amount haven’t sold. The card he has is not a 1/1 it’s numbered 17/25. I hope that he’ll be able to sell it for a profit as well. His expectations however are not even in the ball park.

The highest sale is now $40K. His 1st full game worn Knicks uni sold this afternoon. I won’t use the actual catch phrase because I would need to punch myself in the throat for even typing the words, but this is true insanity. I’ve been in the sports card & memorabilia industry for over 15 years & have never seen anything like this before.

Steve, Maybe your store could use some quality publicity as well!?

@Steve I’m not sure if LINSANE is a compliment or not… please clarify

p.s. if it is, in fact, not a compliment I agree with KH, “your card store sucks”

  • Rob Schwartz

i know the guy with the card – its rated a bgs 9.5 the media hasnt mentioned that

  • KH

Hey Steve stop hating dude – guy made a big inventment/took a huge gamble. Kid is obviously very smart if he profits at all. Your industry already has bad name. Stuff like this can already show its still relevant, even if its only for a week – your card store sucks

  • Steve Mandy

As the owner of a sports card store, I can tell you that he can start his auction on Ebay for any amount he wants to. He also can hope it goes for $75,000 or more if he wants to. Personally I hope that I win the Mega Lottery tomorrow night. My chances of winner the lottery are better then his chances of selling his card for even his minimum bid. Lin cards are selling like crazy & going up in value everyday. This guy is just looking for publicity and in doing so is giving my industry a black eye. Linsanity is alive, but this guy is plain LINSANE!!!

    • jake hopps

he paid 1k for the card and will probably sell the card for 25k…. linsane? it sounds like you are linsanely jealous!
