“He had hit his head through the glass — he was bleeding everywhere,” one witness said, describing the driver.

The crash happened just as many office workers were spilling out of their buildings for lunch, WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported. Witnesses said the cabbie appeared to be speeding and one man marveled that only one person was struck.

“It was lunchtime — it’s always crowded out here…lot of other people jumped out the way though,” that witness said.

I bet Lauren is getting no work done this afternoon. Spending time around everyone’s desk showing the pictures she took of this accident. Lauren is pondering if this is her true calling in life?

so the driver had on a seatbelt, smashed through the windshield. The passenger didn’t have on a seatbelt and was fine. Guess the lesson to this story is DON’T WEAR YOUR SEATBELT. And how do you know the drivers was unconscious before collision? And, did you grab your camera first or try to warn pedestrians that may have possibly be in the way?

    1. Lauren says:

We saw his head tiltedto the side before he collided. Someone said he may have had a heart attack. We were on the opposite side of E 43rd. Could see right into the cabs windshield.. Others on the corner where he crashed screamed to warn, but it was too fast. The driver never slowed down. He just drove, never touched his brakes,, hit a parked car, and then smashed into duane reade. He wasnt awake/cosnscious.

did the taxi passenger have on a seatbelt?

      1. Lauren says:

Passenger was fine, no seatbelt. Jumped out of the back. Driver was unconscious before collision. He had one on. His head smashed through his front windshield.

        1. Steven says:

Wait. the passenger was fine? The article states the passenger was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Doesn’t sound like fine to me. Are your sure you were there?

          1. Lauren says:

He got out of the car with help. Wasnt stuck. Positive.
