Police Look At Surveillance In Drive-By Shooting Of Queens Mother

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A Queens woman is dead following a Sunday shooting in Ozone Park. Authorities say that Sandra Bajath, 39, was killed following a dispute at a bar.

Bajnath was on the steps by her front door with a 26-year-old man identified as a cousin early in the morning when, police say, two men opened fire on them.

Police estimating more than 20 shots were fired, killing the mother of two sons, and critically injuring the relative.

“She was just a very beautiful person. One of a kind, doting mother, funny, caring,” said Annie Shiwram, Bajath’s friend.

Friends say it may have started with a fight at the Food Hut & Bar just around the corner from the home.

“I woke up and all you heard was like they were shooting, like, a lot,” said neighbor Victoria Tobar.

Police were eager to see what is on the video from not one but two cameras on the front of the home. The murdered woman’s husband Tony, a plumber, was escorted in to get the footage for investigators and help them find his wife’s killers.

“They were high school sweethearts.  I don’t know how he’s going to take this. I hope he has the strength to go through it,” Shiwram said.

Bajnath has a 7-year-old son, Rabin, and a baby named TJ. Loved ones say she works for a phone company and was on maternity leave.

No arrests have been made.

How sad. As the mother of 2, my heart goes out to her children. It’s shameful how most of the comments here are about blaming the victem and how “those people” moved in and there went the neighborhood, when it should be about how sensless violence ripped apart a hard-working, decent family.

As a former resident of Ozone Park I have to say this area just another example of decay due to the low lifes that moved in over the past 30 years.
From overcrowding due to all homes made into illegal 2 & 3 families, to garbage and stench this area just adds to the decline of NYCs 5 boros

Exactly why I am moving to Idaho, Oregon, or maybe Tennessee (got it narrowed down to those three). Everyone else please “enjoy” the aforementioned garbage and stench.

I lived there between 1967 and 1985 and couldn’t agree with you more. There were 2 homes around my corner that had 24 indians living in one and 18 in the other.

At least they live in homes and not trailers like your kind…See what ignorance does…it brings out the worst in people…No matter what one says about another’s race the same or worst can be said about your own.
