NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Fans of the best selling teen novel “The Hunger Games” flocked to the Union Square Barnes and Noble on Monday night, while others waited more than 24 hours down the block for a chance to see the stars of the highly-anticipated movie.

“The Hunger Games” trilogy has attracted a cult following, much like the “Twilight” phenomenon. Actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson signed autographs ahead of Friday’s premiere.

“Meeting the cast is like a once in a lifetime opportunity. And I think it’s worth every minute standing here,” fan Nick Lehaf told CBS 2’s Hazel Sanchez.

“‘Twilight’ is just like ‘hey, I’m a vampire. I love you.’ We’ve seen that already. This is something different,” said Joseph Shyti of Riverdale.

Emily Winter said she has read all three books and waited more than 15 hours to meet the stars who will bring the stories to life.

Asked if it was worth the wait, “Oh yeah, that was like the best five seconds of my life,” she told Sanchez.

“It’s war mixed with romance mixed with her fighting for her family, fighting to stay alive, survival. Like a whole bunch of books mixed into one,” she added.

Not only do young fans approve of the series, but so do many of their parents.

As father Bill Imhof explained, “It’s getting these kids to read more and more. Very interesting stories.”
