Police: Patchogue Store Clerk Takes Knife From Suspect During Robbery

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A brave Long Island store clerk has helped put a homeless man behind bars.

Police said around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, 31-year-old Kristian Falterman walked into A&E Multi Services on Main Street in Patchogue and demanded money from the cashier at knifepoint.

Employee Ana Ramones, 29, handed over the cash from two registers but not without a fight.

Police said Ramones struggled with Falterman, taking the knife from his hand and throwing the weapon outside the store.

Police said the two continued to fight outside before a good Samaritan stepped in and held Falterman down until police arrived.

Falterman sustained non-life threatening injuries during the confrontation and was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.

Ramones was not hurt.

Faleterman has been charged with first-degree robbery.
