L.I. Mom Accused Of Crashing Into Telephone Pole While Intoxicated

BAYPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police arrested a Long Island mother, accused of driving while intoxicated with her child in the car, after she crashed into a telephone pole Thursday.

Suffolk County Police said 40-year-old Cathleen Deutscher, of Bayport, crashed on Oakwood Avenue near the intersection of Homestead Road in Bayport at 12:54 p.m.

Her 5-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time, police said.

The child was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue and released.

Police determined that Deutscher was driving a 2012 Honda Accord while intoxicated and placed her under arrest.

Deutscher with charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years old or younger, which is a felony under Leandra's Law, and endangering the welfare of a child.

She is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on March 30.

The child was released to the custody of family members.
