Revis: Jets’ Locker Room ‘Going To Be More Of A Circus’ With Tebow
NEW YORK (WFAN) — Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis thinks backup quarterback Tim Tebow will have a “big impact” on the play of starter Mark Sanchez.
But the Tebow Effect could bring additional drama to a team in need of healing.
“It was a circus, and it’s going to be more of a circus with him in the locker room,” Revis said Wednesday on ESPN’s “SportsCenter.” “I’m not questioning his ability to play the game. He can flat-out play the game. But it is just going to bring more to the locker room every day, ‘Does Mark need to start? Does Tim need to start?’
“It is going to be an ongoing thing throughout the season.”
Asked to play a game of word association, Revis replied, “Disarray right now,” when given the term “Locker room.”
Manish Mehta of the Daily News released a report in January in which several anonymous Jets ripped Sanchez for his play and “lazy” work ethic.
“I think we didn’t have enough support for Mark this past year, and we need to,” said Revis. “When you look at great teams, they stick with their quarterbacks, no matter what. This is a game where guys make mistakes sometimes. We all do. I’ve had touchdowns on me, Peyton Manning has thrown interceptions. We can go down the line.
“I just think overall, we just need to take care of Mark a little more and appreciate him and be a support system for him.”
Revis took a jab at the Broncos’ Tebow-led offense last season, before the Jets’ 17-13 loss to Denver in Week 11.
“The biggest thing for the secondary is for us not to fall asleep,” he said. “We can’t fall asleep back there in the secondary. It can get boring, especially if a team keeps on just running the ball, series after series, play after play.”
Revis, who was initially surprised by the trade, said he gained much respect for Tebow after the quarterback stunned New York in November.
