Dove Tree Nursery owner Sunny Lipinski says she knows why Brookhaven is among the latest towns considering banning the planting of bamboo.
"It grows very thick. I mean, some people use it as a screen because it grows thick and you can't get through it. But once it gets into an area, it just affects it," he told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
It kills other plants and trees, and can damage foundations, pipes, and other property.
"Yeah, I mean people get it not knowing what it's going to do. It just keeps growing and growing and growing," he said.
Lipinski calls bamboo a nuisance plant.
