NORTH BERGEN, NJ (CBSNewYork) - Trout season begins this Saturday, and some New Jersey anglers can’t wait to cast their lines.

Mike Luna helps to stock ponds in North Hudson County Park, and he’s stocked 600 trout there alone.

WCBS 880’s Levon Putney reports

“Over the last three weeks we’ve put out 180,000 trout statewide for Opening Day on Saturday,” Luna told WCBS 880’s Levon Putney.

Jim Shoshua with the State Department of Fish and Wildlife says that they’re putting out a total of 600,000 trout statewide, and some anglers are so excited that they can hardly contain themselves.

“I just can’t wait,” said Brito of Union City, who said he’ll be fishing almost every day. “I’m all excited, I can’t wait.”

Some 95,000 anglers buy trout stamps to fish in New Jersey.
