Police: Brooklyn Couple Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — Police officers responding to a report of a man with a firearm inside of an East 96th Street building arrived to find a gruesome scene.

On Saturday afternoon Vincent Tropeano, 74, and Elain Tropeano, 63, were found dead inside of a first floor bedroom with gunshot wounds to their heads.

The pair was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Neighbors told 1010 WINS’ Gary Baumgarten that Tropeano’s wife was in terrible pain from Multiple Sclerosis. They said that Vincent had devoted his entire life to Elaine but that they could see that he was at a tipping point.

” I kept trying to say to him, just get away from the house for awhile,” said neighbor Lou Drucker.

1010 WINS Reporter Gary Baumgarten spoke with neighbors…

Drucker said that he could see that his friend was on edge, but couldn’t fathom what happened today.

Investigators recovered a firearm at the scene. The investigation into the deaths is ongoing.

She was my good friend for 43 years. This disease was so devastating – it was killing her slowly. She’s released from her pain and torment – may she rest in peace forever. She earned it.
