Islanders Assistants Scott Allen, Dean Chynoweth Won't Return

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Islanders say assistant coaches Scott Allen and Dean Chynoweth won't return to coach Jack Capuano's staff next season.

The moves were announced Monday, just over a week after the Islanders finished their fifth straight non-playoff season. New York (34-17-11) finished last in the Atlantic Division for the fifth consecutive year, second to last in the 15-team Eastern Conference, and with the fourth-fewest points in the NHL.

Allen had been an assistant with the Islanders since July 2009, under former coach Scott Gordon. Chynoweth, a first-round pick of the Islanders in the 1987 draft, joined the coaching staff a month before Allen.

Capuano took over on an interim basis when Gordon was fired on Nov. 15, 2010, and was given the job fulltime in April 2011.
