NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) – “Live from New York, it’s…”
The Giants’ quarterback is ready to test his comedic chops when he hosts “Saturday Night Live” on May 5.
“I’m a little nervous about it, but excited also,” Manning said Monday. “It should be a lot of fun. It will take some work, but it should be something I’ll always remember.”
Eli won’t be the first Manning to host the show. His brother, Peyton, did it in 2007 and had a very funny “United Way” skit in which he coached youngsters, hit them with passes in the back and stomach and even banished one to a portable bathroom for 20 minutes.
The two-time Super Bowl MVP has no stage experience, noting he was never even in a school play, though he’s done several commercials.
“It’s something that’s been offered a few times and I’ve turned it down. But it seemed like the right time. I felt ready to do it and I’m excited about that opportunity,” he said.
In Denver, Peyton Manning said, “I’m excited for him. He’ll do a good job.”
Asked if he’d make a guest appearance to help his little brother out, Peyton Manning said he has a prior commitment, “so I won’t be able to make it. But I’ll be tuned in.”
The musical guest is scheduled to be Rihanna.
Manning will be the fifth NFL quarterback to host “SNL,” according to the New York Daily News. Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Joe Montana and Fran Tarkenton have also stood under the Studio 8H spotlight.
Will Eli be just as good as Peyton on ‘SNL’? Sound off below…
