Upscale Old Brookville Hosting Meeting Due To Recent Rise In Crime

OLD BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The village of Old Brookville is taking steps to crack down on a recent rise in crime.

The rise in burglaries in the upscale community has some residents a bit edgy, reported WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.

"These thing come in waves,"  one resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Xirinachs. "You're more wary, in general, when you pull in to a driveway."

Security experts will be at a crime prevention and security planning meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening. To find out the location of the meeting, call the village hall at 516-671-4664 before 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Old Brookville Police Commissioner Matthew Schamroth said people can't ignore what is happening around them.
