Report: Legendary Coach Phil Jackson Is Very Much On The Knicks' Radar
NEW YORK (WFAN) - The Knicks have played excellent basketball since Mike Woodson took over for Mike D'Antoni. But Woodson still has the interim tag next to his name, and it's far from determined whether Woodson will be roaming the Madison Square Garden sidelines for New York next season.
Cue the latest rumor in the Knicks' potential search for a coach next season.
CBSSports.com has cited a report from the Journal-Times that the legendary Phil Jackson, winner of 11 NBA titles as a coach, is very much on the Knicks' radar, and New York is prepared to make him a very generous offer.
If the Knicks fail to advance past the first round of the playoffs -- which is very likely as either the Heat or Bulls await -- the Knicks will make a major push to bring in the 1996 Coach of the Year, the Journal-Times reported.
Terms of the contract would be in the neighborhood of $50 million over four years, the Journal-Times said.
Jackson, who played with the Knicks from 1967-1978, is currently retired after spending 12 years with the Lakers.
