(CBS) The Bulls won Saturday’s game, but they have lost their point guard for the remainder of the season.
“Guard Derrick Rose tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and he is out for the remainder of the season,” the Chicago Bulls announced Saturday.
With 1:23 left in Game 1 and the Bulls holding on to a 99-87 lead over the Philadelphis 76ers, Derrick Rose drove into the paint, planted, jumped and passed the ball to Carlos Boozer on the wing.
While Rose was in mid-air, it was obvious he was in pain and he came down without putting weight on his left leg. He stayed down on the floor writhing in pain and when the trainers came out, it was obvious there was a problem with his left knee.
“I don’t work backwards like you guys,” Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said when asked why Rose was still in the game. “The score was going the other way.”
Trainers performed the dreaded ACL test on the court before helping Rose to the locker room. From there, he was taken to a local hospital and will have an MRI today.
The Bulls won the game 103-91.
