'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Author Speaks In Westchester As Steamy Novel Sweeps Nation

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The mania over the steamy novel "Fifty Shades Of Grey" is only picking up steam.

Hundreds of women attended a lunch and book signing in Westchester County Friday with the author, while thousands more were turned away.

E.L. James got a standing ovation at the luncheon. Her book is the first of a trilogy that is sweeping the nation and apparently changing marriages along the way.

The book is a love story written from the view of college student Anastasia Steele, who falls for Christian Grey, a character with a proclivity for S and M.

Grey ties are used in the book -- and they're not for fashion.

"We know the husbands are happy. In fact, there's a shortage of grey ties in Manhattan -- you can't find one anywhere and apparently I hear lingerie sales have just spiked," Lyss Stern, the founder of Divamoms.com, told CBS 2's Ann Mercogliano.

Women said the book is changing their sex lives and they can't wait to share.

"You know World War II and the baby boom? This is World War III," said Alyssa Wool. "Next year, there will be a rise in the population because of this book."

Women gushed to James during the book signing, many who promised their moms a copy for Mother's Day.

"These books have brought out a community of women to be able to talk to one another," Stern said.

The author told the women at the luncheon that she's glad the book is bringing them together to talk about things they don't normally discuss. They also begged for more books, this time from Christian Grey's perspective.

Sources close to the author said that may be in the works.

A movie is also in the works, but there is no word yet on who will play Christian Grey.
