Cops: Brothers Arrested After Attacking Retired FDNY Lieutenant After Yankees Game

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It was supposed to be a good time at the ball game.

Retired fire lieutenant Richard Kelly, 46, and retired firefighter Bill Spade brought their sons to Yankee Stadium on Friday to catch the Bronx Bombers play the Seattle Mariners.

"We try to make a pilgrimage to the stadium at least once a year to go to a game," Kelly said.

When Kelly's teenage sons got up to use the restroom, Keith Stamler, 32, and his 34-year-old brother Brad allegedly sat down in their seats.

"I looked over to my left and I saw an individual just eating my son's food," Kelly said.

The brothers apparently became verbally abusive before security escorted them away. When the game ended, Kelly said they jumped him, grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground.

"When I was on the ground I was struck in the head and I felt a kick to my side," Kelly said, adding that his son was terrified. "He said, 'Dad, I thought you died the way you fell and hit the ground."

Spade, a 9/11 rescuer, pulled the men off his friend, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.

The Stamler brothers were arrested and charged with assault.
