Giants' John Mara Working On A Deal To Extend Head Coach Tom Coughlin

NEW YORK (WFAN) - Giants head coach Tom Coughlin will turn 66 this summer, but there's no sign of him calling it quits any time soon.

Big Blue's head coach since 2004, Coughlin is at the top of his game after defeating the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI this past February in Indianapolis. And though it would seem like an appropriate time for the coach to step down, the upstate New York native is currently in talks with Giants owner John Mara about a contract extension, according to CBSSports.com.

Mara told reporters of his intention to get a deal done with Coughlin  on Wednesday at the unveiling of the Giants' 2011 Super Bowl rings.

"We're working on [a deal]," Mara told reporters. "It will be done sooner rather than later."

The former Jaguars coach is entering the final year of his current contract, and has mentioned in the past that he's open to coaching past age 70.

Coughlin has a career record of 154-121 as a head coach, and in addition to last season's triumphant Super Bowl win, he also famously led the Giants to an improbable victory in Super Bowl XLII over the previously undefeated Patriots.
