Therapeutic Apparel Claims To Help Relieve Back, Neck Pain

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)  - You've tried just about everything, but your back still twinges, your neck's sore and your shoulders throb.

Could the answer to all these aches and pains be your choice of clothing?

Several manufacturers are now promising relief with a new type of therapeutic apparel.

One maker says it works like this: Polyester bands are strategically placed to gently pull the shoulders back--realigning the spine to a normal posture.

Other shirts contain an electronic sensor that detects when wearers begin to slouch and then vibrates, reminding them to stand up straighter.

The shirt is getting rave reviews online--from athletes--and even some doctors. "Patients in certain studies have shown less fatigue, less pain at the end of the day," said Dr. Peter McCann, Orthopedic Surgeon at Beth Israel Hospital.

McCann said while these shirts are great aids, remember -- the results are only temporary. "To rely on the shirt rather than exercises and getting your muscles stronger, I think will lead to failure," McCann said.

For permanent results, you need to do the work yourself and exercise your back and shoulders, McCann said.

Most of the shirts start at around $100. For more information and where to buy them, click on the links below:
