Police: Suspect Used Fake Gun To Steal $14 From Woman In Elmont

ELMONT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An Elmont man has been arrested after Nassau County police said he used a fake gun to steal $14 from a woman while she was sitting in her car.

It happened Monday around 9 p.m. on Hempstead Turnpike.

The suspect, identified by police as 22-year-old Olvin Noe Ordonez-Cruz, walked up to the woman's car, pulled out what looked like a gun and demanded money, police said.

The woman handed over $14 and Ordonez-Cruz took off, police said. The woman then called 911.

Police found the suspect nearby and he was arrested. Police said the suspect's gun turned out to be an imitation.

Ordonez-Cruz was charged with robbery and is set to be arraigned Tuesday.
