Police: Robbery Suspect Targeting Women In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a man who they said has robbed four women in the last month in the Bronx.

The suspect is wanted for two robberies in May and two more in June. The suspect confronts women inside elevators or stairways of apartment buildings, pulls out a knife or box cutter and then forcibly robs them, police said.

Surveillance video also showed the suspect during the most recent attack at 1531 Sheridan Avenue, a large apartment building that requires a key card to get in.

"They actually changed the lock to make it safer for us and for someone to automatically get in easily is crazy," Cabrela told CBS 2 Weijia Jiang.

Though the suspect has shown weapons during the robberies, he has not used them, authorities said.

Police said one of the attacks happened at a building on Jerome Avenue right across the street from Yankee Stadium. The suspect also hit up 1113 Grant Avenue and the 2800 block of University Avenue, according to police.

News of the alleged robberies has some area residents concerned.

"I think a lot of people, a lot of young kids, a lot of women over here are going to fear for their life here," said Shaneequa Lyde. "Major damage can happen with a box cutter."

"That's terrible, because this is a nice neighborhood," said Craig Jenkins. "I never heard anything like that happen around here."

The suspect, who police said is bald with a tattoo on his right forearm, was seen on surveillance video inside an elevator at a building on Sheridan Avenue June 9 where police said one of the robberies took place.
