NEW YORK (WFAN) — In a face-to-face meeting, Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard met with newly-installed General Manager Rob Hennigan on Friday night and demanded a trade to the Brooklyn Nets.

Chris Broussard of ESPN broke the story late Saturday night.  Hennigan met with Howard in Los Angeles to hear the superstar’s thoughts and Howard hasn’t backed down from his ‘trade-me stance.’

Hennigan hasn’t told Howard that he will proceed with plans to trade Howard or if he intends on holding the star center to his contract.  Previously, ex-Magic GM Otis Smith promised Howard that he would look into trade options, but Smith was fired by the organization on briefly after the 2011-12 season.

Howard has grown increasingly frustrated with his situation in Orlando.  He’s made no secret of his long-standing desire to join the Nets.

Meanwhile, Deron Williams is edging closer to choosing between the Nets and the Dallas Mavericks.  Williams and former Net Jason Kidd are looking to join either the Nets or Mavericks in a package deal.

Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted late Saturday that the Nets are also looking at Joe Johnson, O.J. Mayo and Luis Scola.

Going into free agency, the Nets only have $17.7 million committed to seven players.
