Generally this time of year, the sports talk in this town revolves around America’s favorite pastime, so with the Yankees sitting comfortably in first place atop the AL East and the Mets surprising everyone with their gritty play, one would have to figure it was all about baseball early on during this action packed edition of the Boomer and Carton Morning Extravaganza.
Well one would be wrong, because the guys opened up today’s show talking about basketball, specifically the Nets, who have suddenly catapulted themselves to the forefront of the NY sports landscape with the acquisition of Joe Johnson and the news that Deron Williams has elected to re-up, which means he’ll be playing in Brooklyn for the foreseeable future.
On top of that, the Knicks pursuit of Steve Nash ended abruptly, as the two-time NBA MVP will be taking his talents to Los Angeles to team-up with Kobe and the gang. Meanwhile, the Rockets reportedly have a healthy offer on the table for Jeremy Lin, which means the Knicks will have to commit somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 years/$40-million to retain Lin’s services.
Craig believes Lin is overrated and does not want to see the Knicks match the Rockets’ offer, in turn overpaying Lin to remain in New York. He was so distraught in fact, he took to donning a Brooklyn Nets hat in an act of protest towards the Knicks and took to placing blame on GM Glen Grunwald for sitting by idly while the Nets continue to make waves.
Boomer doesn’t agree with Craig’s overrated tag as far as Lin is concerned, and doesn’t think Grunwald should be held accountable and was quick to point out that the Knicks don’t really have a choice but to pay Lin and go from there. So I guess you could say the Blonde Bomber played the familiar role of the ‘voice of reason’ as Craig’s irrational behavior was clearly getting the best of him…
