Police Arrest 2 In Newark Shooting Death Of Cab Driver

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police arrested two teens in the death of an Irvington taxi driver who was discovered fatally shot early Saturday in Newark.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Police Department say 19-year-old Jeshon Johnson of Newark was arrested Wednesday. Eighteen-year-old Alchane Mayes, with addresses in Newark and Henryville, Pa., was arrested Friday.

Both men face charges of robbery, felony murder, conspiracy and weapons offenses. It's not immediately known if they have retained lawyers.

Police responding to reports of a crash involving a taxi and several parked cars around 5 a.m. Saturday in Newark discovered Rochenel Guerrier, the driver of the taxi, had been fatally wounded.

Guerrier, a 49-year-old married father of three from Irvington was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not commented on a motive.
