Police said a 37-year-old man was thrown from the back of the boat and the other, 32, jumped in after him.

Police said Marmo, who was operating the boat, didn't even realize the two were overboard until they were out of sight.

"The operator of the vehicle was in the cabin with the door closed on the cell phone, intoxicated and does not realize for several minutes that his two passengers are missing," Police inspector Kenneth Lack told reporters, including 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

Lack said when Marmo finally looked around and realized his friends were gone, he called for help.  Lifeguards at Jones Beach spotted the men in the water and rowed out to save them.

They were not injured, according to police.
