MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – The Nassau County Health Department has closed more than a dozen beaches to bathing after heavy rains soaked the area on Wednesday.

Officials are concerned runoff water from the rain could elevate bacteria levels and have closed 14 beaches along Nassau County’s north shore.
