NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some call it "Chick Lit" - but it's really so much more.

Her latest work, Where We Belong, just came out last week and is already stirring a buzz.

Besides being an author, Emily is also a lawyer and a mother of three young kids.

On her trip to The Couch, she spoke to Carolina and John about the balance of work, life and family.

"I don't think you can do it all, you just do your best every day," she said. "You have to make compromises. This week I'm not home with my children and you can't beat yourself up over that sort of thing."

Despite the fact that she may look like she has it all together, she says otherwise.

"You have to let go of the notion of having it all," she said. "There's no such thing."
