There are new businesses, businesses that are expanding, and those mega mansions out on the East End of Long Island - including in the Hamptons.

To keep up with the growth, LIPA plans to upgrade the transmission line.

"What the upgrade will do is it will give us 200 megawatts of additional power to use for the peak load. Our peak load time is when when we have the hottest weather," LIPA's Michael Hervey told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall. "The tourist trade is booming. This gives us the ability to keep up with it, even on the hottest of days."help us keep up with the growth."

This will also help keep the lights on during a storm, Hall reported.

"If we don't do it, then we have shortages and it's our job to keep in power and keep us up-to-date so that we have plenty of supply and this project will help us do that," he said.
