NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Alex Denis visited MS 131 on the Lower East Side Tuesday morning. She was joined by several students who benefit from the school’s annual free summer meal program.
As school chancellor Dennis Walcott explained, the school has partnered with the USDA to provide nutritious meals to youngsters, free of charge.
Summer meals are provided in more than 1,000 locations, including pools, parks, public housing sites and soup kitchens throughout the five boroughs.
Refrigerated trucks are available to serve meals to crowds at Orchard Beach in the Bronx, Flushing Meadows Park in Queens and Queens Farm Park through Aug. 31.
