NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Looking beautiful can be expensive when you shop at department store beauty counters, but some of cosmetics’ best buys can be found at your local drugstore.

To show you how to look great without spending a fortune, TV 10-55’s Carolina Bermudez teamed up with Cosmo for Latinas magazine’s Milly Almodovar at Duane Reade’s Look Boutique and picked out the best beauty finds for under $10.

First Up: Beauty Balms, or BB creams. This new cosmetic has quickly become the hottest thing in makeup because of its versatility.

“What’s so great about them is they offer five functions in one. They’re your primer, they’re your foundation, your SPF, moisturizer. They even conceal,” explained Almodovar. “They’re fantastic. Perfect for a woman on the go.”

Almodovar recommends Maybelline’s line of BB creams, because they come in 5 shades. Great, she says, for women of all types of skin tones and completions.

The cost? $7.99

The right blush is essential to putting together the perfect look.

“It just wakes your face up. Nothing makes your face look more radiant than a good blush,” Almodovar said.

Almodovar’s drugstore pick for best blush is Milani blush at $9.99.

“It’s very pigmented. You really have to apply it with a light hand, but once you do, you’ve got color for the whole day.”

And now that lipsticks are back in vogue, beauty insiders are left searching for the perfect shade.

“Lipsticks of the past were very drying, and made your lips look thinner.” Almodovar said. “The lipsticks of now, very different. Very hydrating, full of color.”

She recommends Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick, in a red tint for $9.49.

For the best results when using any makeup, Almodovar says you have to know your skin’s undertones. Warm or cool skin tone can direct the best choices for your lip color.

How do you find out your skin’s undertone?

Just look at your veins!

“If you have green veins and look better in gold, then you’re probably warm. but if you have blue veins and look better in silver, then you’re probably cool,” Almodovar says.

Beauty for a bargain. What’s better than that?
